KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team opened the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend with a hard-fought 4-2 loss to Memphis at the University of Tennessee on Friday afternoon.

The Broncos (2-2) earned the doubles point in a thriller. Senior Peter Kuszynski and sophomore Joaquin Caballer gave WMU the lead with a 6-4 win at No. 2. The duo of Harry Rock and Pablo Alemany Malea took Anton Arzhankin and Ferdinand Schlueter the distance to tie it up at 1-1, winning 7-6 (7-2). It all came down to No. 1 with senior Fynn Lohse and junior Arjun Honnappa against the 30th-ranked doubles team in the nation David Stevenson and Jeremy Taylor for Memphis. Lohse and Honnappa earned the win 7-6 (7-5) to secure the point for the Broncos.
