KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend, falling to Old Dominion 4-2 at the University of Tennessee on Saturday.
WMU (2-3) earned the doubles point for the second time of the weekend, going 2-0 thanks to wins at No. 2 by Peter Kuszynski and Joaquin Caballer and Anton Arzhankin and Ferdinand Schlueter at No. 3. Both pairs won their matches 6-2.
Junior Arjun Honnappa was the lone Bronco to earn a victory in singles action, defeating ODU's Yevhen Sirous 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Fynn Lohse was in a thriller of a match against 91st ranked Younnes Lalami but it went unfinished. Lohse took the first set 7-6 (7-4) and Lalami took the second 6-4. The third set was all squared at 4-4 before the match was caused with the Monarchs earning their fourth point to earn the win. Kuszynski and Benjamin George also each took their competitors to three sets.
Western Michigan returns home to host Michigan State on Saturday at 3 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club. Attendance is free but spectators must wear masks at all times.
