Frederik Tiffels Named to German Men's Hockey Olympic Team

MUNICH, Germany – The Western Michigan Hockey program will have its first ever alum compete in the Olympics after Frederik Tiffels was selected to represent Germany at the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics Games in Beijing.

The Olympics officially begin on Feb. 4 and run through Feb. 20. Germany opens group play on Feb. 10 against Canada, also playing China on Feb. 12 and the United States on Feb. 13.

Tiffels played three seasons with the Broncos from 2014-17, appearing in 105 career games with 59 points on 27 goals and 32 assists. During his junior campaign he had 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists and helped the Broncos to a NCAA Tournament berth.  Tiffels signed professionally with the Pittsburgh Penguins at the conclusion of the season. He was also a three-time NCHC All-Academic Team selection in his time at WMU.

After stints in the ECHL and the AHL he moved back to Germany to play in the country's top professional league. He currently plays for ECH Red Bull Munich and has posted 32 points on eight goals and 24 assists in just 26 games this season. Tiffels has an extensive history with the German National team, playing in four World Championships.
