KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season after a double-header sweep of Ferris State, 7-0 and 4-0, at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday.
The opening match of the day started at 11 a.m. and the Broncos took all three doubles matches to get a point on the board. At No. 3 Karin Hamilton and Kiana RIzollo made quick work of Amelia Laverdiere and Kennedy Dumas, 6-1. The duo of Lindsey Ziegler and Kaitlyn Rogosch defeated Brittany Lavenant and Patricia Martin Gomez 7-5 at No. 2, with Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Ana Guadiana wrapping up doubles with a win at No. 1 over Agata Klack and Sam Stephenson, 6-3.
The Broncos did not drop a set in singles with Ziegler winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Guadiana winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and Karin Hamilton winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Tjon-A-Joe slotted in at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-3 win, while Kaitlyn Rogosch and Maya Perkucin were both victors 6-0, 6-0.
WMU claimed the doubles point quickly in the second match. Elizabeth Trupp and Kristina Tiraspolsky were the first to claim a win with a 6-0 decision over Laverdiere and Eden Short. Hamilton and Guadiana clinched the point with a 6-2 victory against Martin Gomez and Lavenant. The No. 1 match went unfinished.
In singles it was Ziegler winning at No. 2 6-1, 6-2, Hamilton at No. 3 6-0, 6-0 and Taylor Smith at No. 6 6-1, 6-1. The remaining matches went unfinished once the score reached 4-0.
WMU heads on to road to Cleveland State on Saturday, taking on the Vikings in the morning before battling St. Bonaventure in the afternoon.
