MADISON, Wis. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season as it battled Wisconsin to a 0-0 tie on the road on Thursday night.
Isaac Walker made a game-high four saves in his first start of the season for the Broncos (0-2-1). WMU fired off six total shots, landing two on goal by
Brennan Creek and
Mike Melaragni. The Badgers had 13 total shots with four on target.
"If we're to be honest with ourselves, Wisconsin probably deserved more from the game," said head coach
Chad Wiseman. "But there is something to be said about going on the road at a Big Ten school and securing the shutout."
WMU's best chance came in the first half on a cross by
Max Keenan inside the six-yard box but the chance was missed.
"Wisconsin was all over us in the second half. They had us pinned in for long stretches, recycling set piece after set piece. Isaac was big for us in many moments. It was certainly nice to see him back between the pipes."
Western Michigan hosts Butler on Monday at 3 p.m. for its regular season home-opener. Prior to the game WMU will host its annual Bronco Soccer Fest beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex practice fields. For more information and to register please visit www.wmuevents.com.
