HOME SWEET HOME
Western Michigan opens up a three-match homestand on Tuesday night against Northern Illinois. It is the first time WMU has been at home since hosting the Discover Kalamazoo Classic on Sept. 3-4. The Broncos lost their last home match against Purdue Fort Wayne, but had won their previous 10 home contests prior to that setback.
LAST TIME OUT
WMU opened up MAC play with a pair of wins at Eastern Michigan last week. The Broncos dropped the first set in Thursday's series opener against the Eagles, but won the final three sets to claim victory, then swept EMU, 3-0, on Friday.
Logan Case posted double-doubles in both WMU wins, giving her a team-leading eight for the season.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois began MAC play by splitting a pair of four-set contests at Central Michigan this past weekend. Katie Jablonski recorded a double-double in both matches for NIU, including 19 kills and 19 digs in the series opener against the Chippewas. Grace Balensiefer also picked a double-double over the weekend and ranks second in the Mid-American Conference with 10.73 assists/set.
SERIES WITH NIU
WMU leads the all-time series against Northern Illinois, 35-27. Western Michigan has won each of the last three meetings against the Huskies, including a pair of 3-0 wins this past spring.
WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS
For the second straight week,
Logan Case and
Maggie King earned MAC West Player of the Week honors. Case won her second straight Setter of the Week, her third overall this season, while King collected her second Offensive Player of the Week in a row. Case handed out 92 assists (13.14/set) and had a pair of double-doubles, while King averaged 5.71 kills/set and hit .345 against EMU.
LEAGUE LEADERS
Logan Case and
Maggie King each enter the week atop the MAC leaderboards. Case paces the conference, and ranks fourth nationally, in assists/set at 11.51. King leads the league in kills/set at 3.98.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Logan Case picked up two more double-doubles last week at Eastern Michigan, giving her double-doubles in four straight matches. She leads the Broncos with eight so far this season.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan continues its homestand on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2, against Central Michigan. The Broncos and Chippewas are slated for a 6 pm battle on Friday and a 3 pm tilt on Saturday. Tickets for all WMU home matches are available at
