KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team earned its third-straight shutout and second-straight win after blanking Dayton, 3-0, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Friday.
WMU (2-2-1) picked up two goals from Dylan Sing and one from Max Keenan, while senior outside back Caden Jackman recorded two assists. For the second game in a row, junior goalkeeper Isaac Walker did not have to make a save to record the clean sheet. The Broncos outshot the Flyers 15-7 overall with a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal.
"I thought it was a complete performance from the guys today," said head coach Chad Wiseman. "Dayton is a talented team. They are extremely athletic and dangerous on the counter, but we slowed that attack down by making sound decisions in the defensive third."
It did not take long for the Broncos to get on the scoreboard. Caden played it to Eric Conerty, who played it directly into the box to Keenan. Keenan slotted the ball into the right corner of the net just 55 seconds into the game. The goal was Keenan's second of the season, with Conerty and Jackman both picking up their first assists of the season.
The Broncos kept up the attack in the first half, firing off 11 total shots in the first 45.
Sing netted his first goal of the day in the 37th minute to put WMU up 2-0. Freshman forward Roni Sylejmani played Sing into the box and the junior midfielder fired it into the bottom right corner of the net. Sylejmani picked up his second assist of the season on the goal, Sing's second of the season.
WMU did not waste much time getting its third goal in the second half. Sing put his second of the game and team-best third of the season with a header off a Jackman corner kick in the 60th minute.
"It certainly helps when you score in the opening minute," said Wiseman. "Our game plan to start was spot on and the guys executed it very well in the first 45 minutes. Finding the second goal before half was deserved. We did not break from the game plan, and we were rewarded."
Western Michigan looks for its third-straight win on Tuesday when Purdue Fort Wayne comes to the WMU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and can also be seen live on Bronco All-Access for free.
