Women's Soccer Adds "Ms. Michigan" Madison Salzenstein

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team and head coach Sammy Boateng have announced the addition of Madison Salzenstein prior to the beginning of the 2021 season.
 
Salzenstein, a native of Beverly Hills, Mich., helped lead Detroit Country Day to a state championship during her senior season and was named Ms. Soccer for the state of Michigan. Salzenstein has been a starter since her freshmen season and wrapped up her career with 34 goals and 14 assists despite having her junior season canceled due to COVID-19. She scored two goals as DCD won the Division III State Championship over Boyne City, 3-0.
 
"We are so proud of Madi's accomplishments this spring," said Boateng. "She earned these awards from her hard work and dedication to improving and wanting to compete at the highest level. We are excited for her and her family and we can't wait to see what she does here at Western Michigan."
 
Salzenstein was name do the MLive.com Statewide Dream Team and a First Team All-State selection. She pushes WMU's incoming freshmen class to 11, 10 of which signed back in December.
 
The Broncos open the 2021 season with an exhibition game at Oakland on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. WMU hosts Detroit Mercy on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. for its regular season home-opener.
