Women's Tennis Falls at Toledo, 4-3

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the season, falling at Toledo, 4-3, in a thrilling match on Friday.

The match was close from the start with the doubles point going down to the wire. UT took a 1-0 lead with Sloane Teske and Cassie Alcala winning at No. 1 over Kristina Tiraspolsky and Femke Tjon-A-Joe, 6-1. The Broncos tied it up after Ana Guadiana and Kaitlyn Rogosch defeating Laura Morera and Patricia Panta 7-5, at No. 2. The Rockets took the doubles point after Ava McQuillin and Julia Kuszynski won at No. 3, 7-6, over Karin Hamilton and Lindsey Zieglar.

WMU tied the match up at 1-1 when Zieglar defeated Teske 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2. Toledo pushed ahead 2-1 after Alcala won at No. 1, defeating Tjona-A-Joe 6-2, 6-3. Kusznyski was a winner at No. 3 over Guadiana, 6-2, 6-2 to give the Rockets a 3-1 lead. Hamilton cut the lead to 3-2 with a victory at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3 over Eileen Carney. The Broncos tied it up at 3-3 as freshman Maya Perkucin beat Shalini Tallamraju at No. 6 in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 7-6. The match came down to the battle at No. 5 between Rogosch and Panta. Panta took the first set 7-6, with Rogosch countering to win the second set 6-4. The two battled back and forth in the final set but Panta pulled ahead and won 6-4, giving the match to the Rockets.

WMU returns home to host Buffalo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
