KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads to Hillsdale College for the 54th annual Hillsdale College GINA Relays beginning on Thursday.
The Broncos open up competition on Thursday evening with
Charlotte Ramser and
Brooke Soper competing in the 5,000-meter run. The bulk of the action takes place on Friday, with WMU competing in seven events. Friday will feature the first time WMU has competed in the 10,000-meter run this season, with
Brittney Hall and
Paisley Sipes set to race.
The GINA Relays, which has been a staple on WMU's schedule, is held annually in honor of legendary Hillsdale distance runner Gina Van Laar, a NAIA National Champion. She tragically passed away in 1996 and Hillsdale renamed its annual multi-day track invitational after her to keep her memory alive. This year's event will feature 46 schools and will be one of the largest meets in the country this weekend.
Western Michigan has one final meet before the 2021 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships. The team heads back up to Grand Valley State next Friday and Saturday for the Extra Weekend meet.
