Women's Tennis Hosts EMU Friday Before Traveling to BSU On Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team returns home to host Eastern Michigan on Friday at 1 p.m. outdoors at Sorensen Courts before heading on the road to take on Mid-American Conference leader Ball State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
The Broncos are looking to stop the slide, falling in their last four matches. Three of the four losses have been by just one point. Last weekend WMU Fell on the road at Miami, 4-3, and then at Bowling Green 5-2.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles enter Friday's match with a 1-9 record in MAC play and 10-13 overall. EMU's lone MAC win came against Toledo back on March 26. Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan met back on March 19 with WMU winning 6-1.
 
Freshman Emma-Loue Pommiers and junior Luisa Pelayo have a team-high 14 wins in singles play. Pelayo is 10-1 at No. 3 and 4-7 at No. 2, while Pommiers has earned most of her wins at No. 4 with a 9-4 record. The pairing of Vasavi Ganesan and Isabella Popma are 10-4 on the season with an 8-4 record at No. 1, while Pelayo and Grace Whitney have made a formidable duo at No. 2, posting a 14-4 record.
 
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Ball State is currently 19-2 overall and holds a 10-0 record in MAC play. The Cardinals head to Miami on Friday before hosting the Broncos on Sunday. The two teams met back on March 21 in Kalamazoo, with BSU taking the match 6-1.
 
Rebecca Herrington has a team-high 14 wins on the season with a 14-5 overall record, with a 7-2 mark at No. 4 and 5-2 mark at No. 5. Jessica Braun, Silvia Martinez and Mariya Polishchuk each have 12 wins on the season. Emma Peeler has played at No. 1 18 times on the season with a 9-9 record. Peeler and Amy Kaplan are 9-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Braun and Martinez have a 6-2 record at No. 2.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan wraps up the regular season next weekend hosting Toledo on Friday at 1 p.m. before traveling to Northern Illinois on Sunday at 2 p.m. Prior to Friday's match the Broncos will honor its seniors Jeryn Jack and Valerie Riegraf.
