BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell in another close match, 5-2, on the road at Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon.
The match was tight from the start. After each team won a doubles match the point came down to the No. 2 contest between WMU's
Lindsey Zieglar and
Kaitlyn Rogosch and BGSU's Ioanna Tsadari and Ayumi Sasaki. The duos battled to a 6-6 tie but Tsadari and Sasaki won in the tie-breaking set, 7-4, to earn the doubles point.
BGSU pushed the lead to 2-0 with a win by Selina Karg at no. 2 over
Kaitlyn Rogosch 6-1, 6-0. Zieglar cut the lead in half with a win at No. 2 over Tsadari, 6-4, 6-3, but the Falcons extended the lead back to two after Sasaki defeated
Ana Guadiana at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. Junior
Femke Tjon-A-Joe got the Broncos back within one after a win at No. 1, 7-5, 6-3, over Marharita-Sophia Tavpash. Yulia Kapitanova sealed the match for Bowling Green after a win at No. 4 over
Karin Hamilton, 6-4, 6-4. Marta Bettinelli finished off the match with a win at No. 6 over
Paula Wohlers.
Western Michigan (13-5, 5-5 MAC) returns home to host Eastern Michigan next Friday at 1 p.m. and then heads on the road to take on Ball State on Sunday.
