AKRON, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's soccer team earned its third clean sheet of the season as the Broncos battled Akron to a 0-0 tie on the road on Wednesday night.
WMU outshot UA 11-10 overall, while the Zips had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Isaac Walker made four saves on the day for the Broncos. The tie keeps WMU in the hunt for the Mid-American Conference regular season title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"The result today was one that left us feeling we missed an opportunity and maybe we did," said head coach
Chad Wiseman. "We created five or six unbelievable chances, chances that we have been finishing all year. Today we just didn't have the quality in the final third that was needed to win the game."
Dylan Sing had a game-high four shots, landing two on goal.
Daniel Nimick had WMU's other chance on net. Junior forward
Mike Melaragni had a header hit the post in the first half as well.
"There are a lot of positives we will take from the game," Wiseman added. "We got a point on the road, keeping us in the hunt for the MAC Championship come Sunday. We also got a clean sheet, which we hadn't had in a while."
"I feel like our guys emptied the tank tonight and gave everything they had."
The Broncos return to Kalamazoo to host Akron on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game can be watched live on ESPN3.
