DeKALB, Ill. -- The Western Michigan softball team earned a series split at Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader after the teams did the same on Friday.
Sunday's action saw NIU take game one, 8-1, before the Broncos rebounded to take the second game, 10-2.
| Game One
The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one and never looked back, adding four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take the game 8-1. For WMU,
Mackenzie Swinehart was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while
Kaylen Glenfield was 1-for-3 with an  RBI.
Rissa Bajusz and
Autumn Godwin were solid in relief of
Sydney Stefanick, combing to allow one earned run over the final two innings of the game.
Kelly Walinski, Katie Keller and Carley Goetschius all had two-hit games for NIU, while Bianca Barone recorded three RBI. Claire Norred went the distancing, limiting the Broncos to four hits and an earned run.
| Game Two
The Broncos flipped the script in the series finale to earn a road split, as all 10 position players scored a single run on the day.
Jordyn Swinehart went 3-for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Stefanick was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Glenfield,
Alyssa Kramer and
Taylor Garey had two hits each, while
Madison Duell knocked in two runs.
Reilly Galloway turned in her second strong outing of the weekend. After taking a tough-luck loss in which she allowed just two hits, Galloway responded by again hurling a complete game. She allowed five hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and a walk.
The Broncos responded quickly after losing the first game of the day, as Stefanick singled home
Mackenzie Swinehart in the first to make it 1-0. WMU added another run in the second on an RBI single by
Jordyn Swinehart.
WMU broke it open with a three-run third. Sophia Elhers scored a run on an RBI groundout (she reached on an error) before
Courtney Farrish delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. Duell then singled home Ehlers to make it 5-0.
Duell delivered again in the fifth, drawing a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-0, before an error on a ball hit to third by
Jordyn Swinehart made it 7-0. Glenfield's single up the middle made it 8-0 before Stefanick drew a bases-loaded walk to increase the lead to 9-0.
Northern Illinois got to Galloway when it needed to most, keeping the game alive thanks to a two-run homer by Kira Mickelson. Another error in the seventh allowed
Jordyn Swinehart to score and provided the final margin of 10-2.

Western Michigan will return home to Ebert Field next weekend for a four-game MAC series with Toledo. Play opens Friday, April 16, at 3 p.m. ET, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, at 1 p.m. ET. The series concludes Sunday, April 18, at Noon ET.
