MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Playing for the first time since April 11 due to a COVID-19 pause, the Western Michigan softball team suffered a pair of losses at rival Central Michigan on Wednesday afternoon. The Chippewas took game one, 7-1, before securing the sweep with a 7-2 victory.
| Game One
In the opener,
Katie Parker was 2-for-3 at the plate for WMU, while
Courtney Farrish reached twice and scored.
Autumn Godwin started for Western Michigan and took the loss, allowing two hits and three earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The Chippewas jumped out to an early lead with an unearned run in the first. CMU added three runs in the third thanks to RBI from Shannon Stein, Caitlyn Britton and Kelsey Alexander.
WMU cut it to 4-1 in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI groundout by
Jordyn Swinehart, but that was all the Broncos could muster at the plate. CMU added three more in the fifth on a bases-loaded double by Emily Bracamonte.
| Game Two
Mackenzie Swinehart paced the WMU offense in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Logan Carter knocked in a pair of runs while
Alyssa Kramer doubled. Rissa Bajsuz held the Chippewas at bay until a five-run fifth inning decided the game.
Consecutive RBI doubles from Tolmie and Stein staked CMU to a 2-0 lead after the first inning. WMU responded to tie the game in the top of the fifth when Carter doubled home
Mackenzie Swinehart and
Madison Duell.
CMU then plated five runs in the bottom half of the fifth, with the big blow coming on a three-run double from Skylar Coberley. The crooked number proved the difference as the Chippewas took a 7-2 victory.
