Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-11 and 3-5 in conference play. The Broncos are coming off a split last weekend with in-state foe Eastern Michigan as WMU hit .328 and had an ERA of 2.82 in the four-game series.
Got the Bats Going at Home
Last weekend against Eastern Michigan, WMU hit a staggering .328 with 19 runs scored on 41 hits. The Broncos posted a .464 slugging percentage and a .404 on-base percentage against the Eagles.
2 or 3 Is Better Than 1
Junior
Justin McIntyre leads WMU and ranks seventh in the MAC with six doubles this season. McIntyre also ranks third in the conference with two triples.
Give Them the Huisman
RHP
Jack Huisman has been stellar on the mound for the Broncos this season, posting an overall record of 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. In Huisman's last start against Eastern Michigan, the right-handed pitcher threw a career-high seven innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out a career-high seven.
One Base is Overrated
Of WMU's 108 this this season 46 have gone for extra-bases, the fourth best mark in the conference. Western Michigan also ranks third in the MAC with 31 doubles.
The Rookie & the Vet
The duo of RHP
Will Mullen and RHP Ryan Watt have been strong out of the bullpen for the Broncos this season. Mullen has a 1-0 record with a 1.42 ERA which ranks third best in the MAC. Mullen picked up the win in his last outing throwing 5.2 innings,
allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts.
Leading the Bronco pitching staff is freshman RHP Ryan Watt with a 1-0 record and a 0.77 ERA. In five appearances this season Watt has allowed just one earned run on 11 hits with four strikeouts.

Scouting the Opponent
Akron heads into the weekend with an overall record of 9-7 and 3-5 in Mid-American Conference play. The Zips have lost four straight games including an 18-7 loss on the road at Dayton on Tuesday. Last weekend BGSU took three of four from Akron with the Zips winning the series opener before dropping the next three.
Offensively the Zips are led by Cameron Tilly who leads the team in runs (14), home runs (4) and RBIs (16). As a team Akron ranks second in the MAC with a .279 batting average led by a .347 batting average from Bryant Shellenbarger.
On the mound Akron ranks fourth in the MAC with a 4.63 team ERA and is led by RHP Taed Heydinger. Heydinger has a 1-1 record this season while registering a team-low 2.12 ERA. RHP John Creel leads the Zips with a 3-1 record, holding opponents to a .127 batting average.
