Women's Tennis Heads to EMU Before Hosting BSU on Sunday at 1 p.m.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads on to the road to Eastern Michigan for a 1 p.m. match before returning home to host Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Sunday's match is expected to be outdoors at Sorensen Courts. Spectators must be on the pass list in order to enter. Gates will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the match.
 
Western Michigan is off to a 10-0 start on the year and opened Mid-American Conference play last weekend with two hard-fought 4-3 wins over Miami and Bowling Green. In a thriller last Friday against the RedHawks, the match was tied at 3-3 and came down to the No. 2 singles battle between WMU's Lindsey Zieglar and MU's Milana Lysova. After losing the first set 6-2, Zieglar stormed back to win the next two 6-2 and 6-3 to secure the victory. After clinching the doubles point against the Falcons, WMU won singles 1-3 to earn the win on Sunday.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend 6-6 overall and 0-2 in MAC play after falling to Ball State and Northern Illinois at home last weekend. Redshirt junior Luisa Pelayo has a team-high nine wins in singles play, with a 9-3 record overall and 8-1 at No. 3. Pelayo and Grace Whitney have also combined to go 8-4 as EMU's top doubles pairing.
 
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
After opening the season with losses at Louisville and Notre Dame, Ball State has won its last 10 matches for an overall record of 10-2. The Cardinals are 1-0 in the MAC, winning at Eastern Michigan last weekend and having a match with Buffalo postponed.  Sophomore Jessica Bruan and senior Rebecca Herrington each have a team-high eight wins. Braun is 8-1 overall with a 5-1 record at No. 3 and wins at No. 2 and No. 1. Herrington is 8-2 overall with most of her wins coming at No. 5. The Cardinals have used 15 different doubles combinations on the season.
 
TWICE IS NICE
Sophomore Lindsey Zieglar earned her second MAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week award for her performance in WMU's wins over Miami and Bowling Green. This is the third time in her young career she has earned the honors. The Daytona Beach, Fla., native is currently second on the team in wins in singles play, going 9-0 so far this year.
 
ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos once again are on the road and at home next weekend. WMU travels to Buffalo to take on the Bulls on Friday at 1 p.m. and then heads back to Kalamazoo to host Northern Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.
