DEKALB, Ill. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team had its two-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss at Northern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon.
WMU (3-2-0, 1-2-0 MAC) twice held the lead but the Huskies scored two unanswered goals in the second half.
"This was a tough loss on the road today," said head coach
Chad Wiseman. "We played well for long stretches of the game but the MAC has shown it's very difficult to find road points this season. This conference season is going to be a battle. All six teams are capable on the day of beating anyone."
The Broncos struck just 15:00 in with
Dylan Sing scoring for the second straight game. Sophomore midfielder
Brennan Creek led the Bronco attack in the NIU half. He crossed the ball into the box and Sing sliced through the box and headed it into the right side of the goal from eight yards out for his second of the season.
Camilo Estrada equalized for NIU in the 35th minute after chesting down a ball and volleying it into the net from the top of the center of the box.
WMU took its second lead of the day in the 39th minute, going up 2-1, on
Eric Conerty's first goal of the season.
Max Keenan played the ball into the box, where Conerty was posted up in the right half. Conerty settled the ball, spun and fired it into the far corner of the net.
Adriana Lara scored two straight goals off of corner kicks to put the Huskies on top. The game-tying goal came in the 59th minute and the game-winner came in the 74th.
"The way we conceded the goals today was disappointing," said Wiseman. "We lost our focus on two set pieces and we paid the ultimate price. Good teams do that to you. We've got to pick up ourselves up and prepare for the next match."
Western Michigan heads back on the road on Monday to take on Akron. Monday's kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and can be watched live on ESPN3.com.
