CLEVELAND – For the third time this season the Western Michigan men's tennis team has swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards. Junior
Fynn Lohse has been named MAC Men's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week and him and his doubles partner sophomore
Arjun Honnappa have earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
Lohse went 3-0 in singles action during the week, helping the Broncos win every match and improve to 11-1 on the season. He was slotted at No. 3 against Cleveland State and earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Luke Phillips. He had a tight win over Evan Fragistas from Drake at No. 3, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 7-6 (9-7). He capped off three matches in three days with another win, this time bumping up to No. 2 and defeating Laurentiu Mandocescu from Youngstown State, 6-0, 6-1. The weekend improved his singles record to 10-1 on the season.
Lohse and Honnappa won all three of their doubles matches on the week. Slotted at No. 1 they earned 6-4 wins against Cleveland State's Nico Mostradi and Luke Phillips and Drake's Oliver Johansson and Benedek Herman. Dropping down to No. 2 they won 6-2 against Youngstown State's pair of Joao Garrettto and Davide Moreno. The pair is 9-2 on the season and have helped the Broncos secure the doubles point in every match this season.
This is the second time that Lohse and Honnappa heave earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors this season.
The Broncos open MAC play this weekend, traveling to Ball State on Friday for a 2 p.m. match and then traveling to Toledo on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match.
