Broncos Fall to Central Michigan in Thriller, 74-71

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  – The Western Michigan women's basketball team had two good looks from three to tie the game with under 15 seconds left but neither attempt found the bottom of the net in a thrilling 74-71 loss to in-state rival Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon inside University Arena.

Trailing by three with 17 seconds remaining sophomore guard Sydney Shafer got off a three-point attempt that nearly went in before ending up in the hands of redshirt senior Reilly Jacobson. After the offensive rebound Jacobson dribbled to the top of the key and got off a game-tying three-point attempt that bounced off the side of the rim as time expired.

Western Michigan battled its in-state rival all the way until the end on Saturday afternoon as WMU led by as many as 11 and held the lead for nearly 33 minutes. WMU outshot CMU, shooting 44.6 percent from the field compared to CMU's 43.4 percent.

The Broncos had a quartet of scorers in double figures led by the duo of sophomore Sydney Shafer and redshirt senior Reilly Jacobson with 19 points each. Jacobson was 8-of-18 from the field while also registering seven rebounds and two assists.
