Track & Field Heads to the Akron Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads out on the road to the University of Akron for the 17th Annual Akron College Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
Events begin on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the Stile Athletics Field House. Friday's field events schedule will feature the pole vault, weight throw, high jump, shot put and long jump. The running events will be the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, mile run, 5,000-meter run and 200-meter dash.
 
Saturday will just have one field event on the women's side, the triple jump beginning at noon. The running events will feature the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 3,000-meter run, 4x400-meter relay and the distance medley relay.
 
WMU already has top-10 performances on the MAC Indoor Performance list in the 800-meters, mile run, 3,000-meter run, 60-meter hurdles and weight throw. Senior Rebecca McNamee owns WMU's top performances in the 800, mile and 3,000. In the 800 her time of 2:15.91 ranks eighth in the conference, her time of 5:01.17 in the mile ranks fifth and she sits sixth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:59.04. Freshman Sarinity Bracey has the eighth-best time in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.99 seconds, while senior Aniya Davis has the eighth-best distance in the weight throw at 56' 11.5 (17.36m).
 
Western Michigan heads back up to Grand Valley State for the annual Friday and Saturday Big Meet.
