MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the 2021 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, scoring in the mile run, 800-meter run and the 60-meter hurdles.
After qualifying in yesterday's preliminaries, freshman
Ahvon Mitchell ran a time of 8.80 in the 60-meter hurdles to take sixth overall. Mitchell earned three points scoring in her first ever MAC Championship appearance.
Senior
Rebecca McNamee scored in both the mile run and the 800-meter run. McNamee turned in a personal-best performance in the mile run after finishing with a time of 4:56.14 taking nearly five seconds off of her previous personal best to run under five minutes for the first time in her career. After her seventh place finish in the mile she went on to take sixth in the 800, finishing with a time of 2:14.37.
"Rebecca has been showing us so much this year as a distance athlete," said head coach
Makiba Batten. "Her range is incredible and she fought hard this meet, especially in the 800. Our freshmen sprinters kept the good vibes flowing in the 60 hurldes and the 4x400.
The Broncos capped off the meet by taking eighth place in the 400-meter relay to earn an additional point. The squad of
Sarinity Bracey, Mitchell, McNamee and
Trinity Bracey combined to run a time of 3:58.90.
"This was an exciting meet and a great opportunity for the MAC and our program," added Batten. "We brought quality performers and they did not disappoint."
