KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team hosts Oakland on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the West Hills Athletic Club.
Sunday's match is the ninth meeting all-time between the Broncos and Golden Grizzlies. WMU is 8-0 all-time against OU, with the last match coming last season. Western Michigan narrowly defeated Oakland, 4-3, in Kalamazoo.
Oakland has an 0-4 record this season, dropping double-headers at Ball State and at Eastern Michigan.
REMAINING PERFECT
Western Michigan is off to a perfect start, opening the season 7-0. But it's not just the team record that is perfect, five athletes that have played in five or more singles matches also have perfect records. Freshmen
Ana Guadiana and
Karin Hamilton are each 7-0 in singles play. Kaitlyn Rogosh and Lindsey Ziegler are 6-0 and
Maya Perkucin is 5-0.
The Broncos did have their streak of earning the doubles point in every match snapped in last week's win over Kansas City. The team of
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Kristina Tiraspolsky are the lone duo to play at least three matches together and have a perfect doubles record at 3-0.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Western Michigan's double-header with Butler that was scheduled for Sunday, March 7 has been postponed. The Broncos also had to postpone a match against Eastern Illinois scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27.
#MACTION
The Broncos are just two weeks away from opening Mid-American Conference play. WMU opens league play hosting Miami on Friday, March 12 at 1 p.m. and then welcoming Bowling Green on Sunday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
The conference season is slightly different this season. Each team will play each other both home and away. There will be no MAC Tournament and the automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament will go to the MAC regular season champion.
