Men’s Basketball Falls to Toledo

TOLEDO, OHIO –  Senior forward Greg Lee was the lone Bronco to score in double figures as the Western Michigan men's basketball team fell to Mid-American Conference leader Toledo 91-44 on Saturday night inside Savage Arena.

Lee led the Broncos with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field. The senior forward scored eight of his 14 points in the second half to earn his 12th game of the season scoring in double figures. Lee also led the Broncos with six rebounds, four of which came in the second half alone.

Behind Lee was sophomore Titus Wright with eight points. Wright was 3-of-5 from the field while going 2-for-3 at the free-throw line. Wright ranked second on the team with four rebounds and was tied for the team lead with two steals. Fellow sophomore
B. Artis White was third on the team with six points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field. White was 2-of-11 from behind the three-point line and has registered at least two three-pointers in 15 of the 18 games this season.

Off the bench freshman Josiah Freeman registered five points on 2-of-5 shooting from the field. Freeman in 21 minutes knocked down one three-pointer to go along with one rebound and one steal. Patrick Emilien contributed off the bench as well with three points while corralling two rebounds and one steal.

As a team the Broncos shot 28.8 percent from the field and was just 3-of-26 from behind the three-point line. Western Michigan was out rebounded by Toledo 47-29 while WMU had six offensive rebounds to Toledo's seven. WMU got 13 of its 44 points from the bench and 24 from in the paint.

Heading into the final week of the regular season the Broncos have an overall record of 4-15 and 3-11 in conference play. WMU begins the final week of the season with a road contest at Northern Illinois on Tuesday, March 2. The Broncos conclude the season at home on Friday, March 5 against in-state foe Eastern Michigan.

The Rockets got off to a quick start in the first half making four of their first five field goals to earn a 10-1 lead just three minutes into the game. WMU cut its deficit down to 22-12 with 10:25 remaining in the first half after a 5-0 run. The run was highlighted by an acrobatic and-one finish from freshman Daylan Hamilton followed by a three from Josiah Freeman.

That was as close as the Broncos got in the first half as Toledo ended the half on a 32-4 run, making 10 of their final 12 field goals to take a 54-16 lead into halftime.

Western Michigan came out with a furious pace to begin the second half and shot 60 percent from the field through the first five minutes of action. However, Toledo continued its momentum from the first half and jumped out to a 77-36 lead halfway through the second half.

Down the stretch the Rockets went on a 14-3 run as WMU was held scoreless for over three minutes en route to a 91-44 victory for Toledo. In the second half the Broncos were 11-of-33 from the field and made two of their final 12 field goals while holding
