WMU’s Win Streak Snapped in Loss at Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team saw its two-game win streak come to an end on Friday night as the Broncos fell to Buffalo 86-54 inside Alumni Arena.

Sophomore B. Artis White was the lone Bronco to score in double figures on Friday night, registering 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. White was also 4-of-9 from behind the three-point line to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

It's the fourth straight game White has scored in double figures and the 13th time this season. White also knocked down four three-pointer s or the second straight game and had multiple three-pointers for the fourth straight game.

Behind White was reigning MAC Player of the Week senior forward Greg Lee with nine points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. Lee led the Broncos with nine rebounds in 26 minutes of action.

Sophomore Titus Wright ranked third on the team with six points followed by junior Adrian Martin, freshman Josiah Freeman and junior Danny Kolp with our points each. On Friday night 10 of the 13 Broncos that saw the court scored against Buffalo.

As a team Western Michigan shot 34.6 percent from the field compared to Buffalo's 46.5 percent. The Broncos were also just 5-of-16 from long distance and 13-of-25 from the free-throw line.  Buffalo outrebounded WMU, 49-32 including a 16-7 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Broncos had 19 turnovers to Buffalo's 14 with the Bulls capitalizing on Bronco mistakes scoring 24 points off of WMU turnovers. Buffalo dominated the paint on Friday night, outscoring WMU 30-15.

The loss snapped WMU's two-game win streak as the Broncos now have an overall record of 4-12 and 3-8 in Mid-American Conference play. Western Michigan's next scheduled game is set for Tuesday, Jan. 16 at home against Kent State. It will be the first home game for WMU since Jan. 23.

It was a slow start for the Broncos who made just one of their first five field goals as Buffalo gained a 7-2 lead at the 16:34 mark of the first half. The Bronco offense got going quickly as WMU went on a 6-0 run in under a minute to cut Buffalo's deficit down to one with 15 minutes remaining.

That was as close as WMU got in the first half as Buffalo over the next eight minutes embarked on an 18-2 run to gain a 25-8 advantage with just over seven minutes left in the first half.  Sophomore B. Artis White looked to spark the Bronco offense, scoring seven straight points to cut into Buffalo's lead. Down the stretch the Bulls made six of their final eight field goals to take a 41-21 lead into the locker room.

In the second half the Bulls continued to add to their lead and at the 13:10 mark after WMU was held scoreless from the field for over 3 minutes, Buffalo had a 55-32 advantage. Near the midway point of the second half WMU made just one of their seven field goals as Buffalo held a 65-35 advantage.

Buffalo continued to add to its lead and embarked on a 14-1 run as the Broncos were held scoreless from the field for nearly five minutes. The Bulls held a 72-36 lead with 7:45 to play before the Bronco offense got hot making four straight field goals but still trained 82-42 with 3:38 remaining.

Down the stretch the Bronco defense held Buffalo scoreless the final 2:06 of play but was unable to inch closer in a 86-54 loss to snap it's two-game MAC road win streak.
