KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The No. 4 Western Michigan hockey team saw its winning streak snapped after a 1-0 loss to No. 14 Omaha in front of a sellout crowd at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.
The Broncos (13-5-0, 6-4-0 NCHC) fired off 41 shots on goal but Maverick goalie Isaiah Saville stopped them all to earn the shutout. Ronnie Attard had a game-high seven shots on goal to lead WMU, while Jason Polin and Ty Glover each had six. Brandon Bussi had 25 saves for Western Michigan and helped hold UNO scoreless on two power plays.
The games lone goal came just 42 seconds into the second period. UNO defenseman Kirby Proctor threw the puck toward Bussi from the top of the left circle and Chayse Primeau cut in front of the net and tipped it in for his fifth goal of the season. Proctor picked up his sixth assist of the season, while Taylor Ward tallied his 10th.
Western Michigan is off until the Great Lakes Invitational Showcase on Dec. 29-30. The Broncos open the showcase at Michigan State on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. and then head to Michigan the following night for another 7 p.m. puck drop.
