Arzhankin, George and Pierce Win Flights at MAC Indoors

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Three Broncos won flight championships as the Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up hosting the 2021 Mid-American Conference Indoors at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday.  

WMU was guaranteed a win in Flight 1 as freshman Anton Arzhankin was pitted against teammate Peter Kuszynski. Arzhankin defeated Kuszynski in a three-set thriller 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. In Flight 3 it was sophomore Benjamin George claiming the title. George defeated Ball State's Nate Webster 6-1, 6-2.

In Flight 4 it was another Bronco vs. Bronco match as sophomores Jackson Boone and Brogan Pierce battled it out. Pierce got the best of his classmate in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Also earning wins in consolation matches were Ferdinand Schlueter and Fynn Lohse. Lohse defeated Northern Illinois' Mikko Malinen in Flight 2, 6-3, 6-2. Schlueter competed in Flight 5 and got the best of Buffalo's Tom Owen, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).

The tournament wraps up the 2021 portion of WMU's schedule.
