Broncos Head East for MAC Showdown Tuesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan football heads to Eastern Michigan for a 7:30 p.m. Mid-American Conference game in Ypsilanti at The Factory.

BRONCOS vs. EAGLES
 
  • Tuesday night will be the 57th meeting between Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan. The Broncos  hold a 34-20-2 lead in the all-time series.
  • The first meeting dates back to 1906, and the two institutions have met every year since 1978.
  • The Eagles have won the last two games, but Western Michigan had won the previous five meetings from 2014-2018.
  • Western Michigan lost at EMU 34-27 in 2019. Head Coach Tim Lester is 2-2 against the Eagles, and is 1-1 on the road.
 
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN (6-4, 3-3 MAC East)
 
  • The Eagles went 3-1 in non-conference play with wins over Saint Francis Pa. (35-15), UMass (42-28), and Texas State (59-21). Their one loss came at Wisconsin, 34-7.
  • EMU opened MAC play with a 27-20 setback at Northern Illinois, but rebounded with a home win against Miami, 13-12. The Eagles then lost 38-31 at home to Ball State, beat Bowling Green on the road, 55-24, and registered a 52-49 win at Toledo.
  • Last week, EMU fell to Ohio at home, 34-26. Senior quarterback Ben Bryant threw for 354 yards and completed 41-of-57 passes. Ohio led for the majority of the contest, but EMU tied it up at 20-20 in the second half. Ohio added a pair of touchdowns to make it 34-20, and despite a score from EMU with 2:26 remaining, the Eagles were unable to complete the comeback.
 
THE LAST MEETING
 
  • Wide Receiver Jaylen Hall had four receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns, but Western Michigan fell at home to Eastern Michigan, 53-42, in the home finale for the Broncos on Dec. 5, 2020.
  • La'Darius Jefferson had 130 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, while Kaleb Eleby finished 19-for-27 passing for 304 yards, and four touchdowns.
  • In a back-and-forth game, WMU cut the Eagles lead to 30-28 in the third quarter, but EMU capitalized on two Bronco fumbles to hold a 43-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Broncos were unable to catch up over the final 15 minutes.
  • Skyy Moore had six catches for 89 yards and a fourth quarter touchdown. Jaxson Kincaide ran for 77 yards on 10 carries.
