Max Burton Signing Day

Men's Basketball

Broncos Ink Williamston Product Max Burton

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach Clayton Bates announced the signing of in-state product Max Burton to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Burton is WMU's first signee in the program's class of 2022, and is set to suit up for the Broncos starting with the 2022-23 season.

A 6-10 forward, Burton is set to begin his senior season at Williamston High School. He chose Western Michigan over several other prestigious programs around the state and region.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Max to the Bronco Basketball Family," coach Bates said. "Max brings a unique skill set to WMU. At 6'10", he has excellent perimeter skills to compliment his ability to play around the basket.

Max has competed at a high level at Williamston High School and has been fortunate to play for an outstanding coach in Tom Lewis. We targeted Max early in the recruiting process and are eager for him to get to campus. Max has an extremely high ceiling as a Bronco and we look forward to him suiting up in the brown and gold!"

Burton is coming off of a terrific run with Williamston in last year's state playoffs, as he averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists as the Hornets made a deep run in the tournament.

He has also excelled on the AAU circuit. Most recently while playing for the Grand Rapids Storm AAU UA Rise 17U, Burton averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 3.2 assists per contest.

WMU begins its 2021-22 regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7 pm as it takes on Hope College at University Arena. Fans can purchase tickets here, or by calling 1-888-4-WMU-TIX. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN3 and the Bronco Radio Network.
