Bronco Football to Hold Walk-On Tryouts Nov. 14

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan football team will hold walk-on tryouts for the 2022 spring roster on Sunday, Nov. 14. The workout will be inside Waldo Stadium or the Donald "J" Seelye Athletic Center (weather pending).

The tryout is only open to current, full-time students at WMU. Participants must attend a tryout meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6:00pm. Individuals will meet for the Nov. 10 event just inside Gate 2 of Waldo Stadium. Bring the items listed below to the meeting. If you are not at the meeting and are not COVID vaccinated, you will not be allowed at the tryout.

For the Nov. 10 meeting, you will need to bring:
-       A current class schedule showing you are enrolled as a full time student (12+ credit hours)
-       Photo identification
-       Proof of health insurance coverage (copy of your card front & back) and completed insurance form through our Student-Athlete Tryout/Physical Information
-       A current physical, which must be dated within six months of the tryout date and completed forms through our Student-Athlete Tryout/Physical Information
-       Sickle cell testing results
-       Paper proof of current cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA for returning WMU students
-       Character letter of reference letter from someone other than a family member (i.e. professor, advisor, high school coach, etc.)
-       Proof of COVID vaccination.

If you do not have all the above materials, you will not be allowed to participate. In addition, if you have undergone a previous tryout with the Broncos, there will be no preferential treatment and all documents will need to be presented.

Physicals and sickle cell testing may be done on campus at the Sindecuse Center or by a family physician. *Please note that appointments are needed for physicals at the Sindecuse Center and can be scheduled by contacting (269) 387-3290.

Walk-ons will be selected on a "need basis" only, but every athlete that has turned in the proper forms has the opportunity to try out. Anyone added to the spring roster will be on a trial basis only and subject to academic review weekly. Your academic schedule cannot have classes before 11 a.m. in the spring as it will conflict with morning practices and workouts.

If you have any questions, please contact the Bronco Recruiting Office at 269-387-8636, or Ashley Hecimovich, Director of On-Campus Recruiting, via e-mail at ashley.hecimovich@wmich.edu.
