Bowling Green (10-6, 6-0) broke a 9-9 deadlock in the first set with a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 edge. WMU got back within a point, 15-14, on a King ace, but BGSU quickly answered with the next three to regain some breathing room at 18-14. From there, the Falcons maintained a cushion of at least three points on their way to a first-set victory.
Trailing 7-5 in the second frame, Western Michigan tallied four consecutive points to move ahead, 9-7. With the set even at 12-12, the Falcons broke off a 4-0 stretch to regain the advantage, 16-12. The next two points went to the Broncos, but BGSU then ripped off nine in a row to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Runs of 5-0 and 4-0 helped Bowling Green get out to an 11-3 start in the third frame. Trailing 15-7, Western Michigan tallied six of the next seven points to draw within three, 16-13. However, three was as close as WMU could get, and a 5-1 BGSU surge put the set beyond reach.
