KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team blanked the University of Akron, 2-0, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Morgan Otteston and Bailey Korhorn each tallied goals for the Broncos (4-11-0, 2-6-0 MAC), while Maggie Rogers made two saves to earn her third shutout of the season.
Otteson gave the Broncos an early 1-0 lead after Mary Dziuba headed on a long ball and Otteson pounced on it at the top of the box to fire it into the right side of the net for her second goal of the season.
Western Michigan held its lead into the second half when Korhorn added to it with her seventh goal of the season. Korhorn got a pass from Cas Flanagan and buried it, pushing her WMU program record for career goals to 27.
From there the Broncos shut things down, allowing just one shot by the Zips in the second half.
Overall the Broncos outshot Akron 12-4, with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Western Michigan is back at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. to host Ball State. The game can be watched live on Bronco All-Access. WMU then heads to Miami Ohio on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
