KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team returns to action for the first time in 321 days as the Broncos host Northern Illinois to open the 2021 season on Sunday, January 24. The dual meet begins at 3 p.m.

Penny Jernigan's team saw a historic 2020 season interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but not before her Bronocs captured the 2020 Mid-American Conference regular season championship. WMU was 6-2 and 5-1 in MAC competition when the final regular season meet (at Iowa) and MAC Championships were canceled.
| SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
WMU graduated just two seniors from last year's conference title squad, return last year's top individual scorers in vault and floor exercise.
Josephine Thomas recorded the top mark on the vault last year at 9.850, while
Stacie Harrison owned the team's top mark on floor at 9.925.The Broncos posted their best team score of the year against Kent State in what turned out to be the season finale, clinching the MAC title with a mark of 196.075.

NIU visits Kalamazoo having competed once this year, placing third in the Tennessee Collegiate Classic with a team score of 193.100 to finish behind Southeast Missouri and Lindenwood.Â
