Baseball Readies for Five Games in Six Days at Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – For the tenth year in a row, the Western Michigan baseball team will make its annual spring break trip down to the Sunshine State for five games in six days at the Snowbird Classic, March 3 – 8.

Saturday, March 7: Western Michigan vs. St. Bonaventure | 11:00 a.m.

Scouting the Broncos
Following a three-game series at No.3 Louisville, the Broncos head to Florida for five games in six days with an overall record of 5-5. WMU boasts the Mid-American Conference's top offense, averaging 9.3 runs per game. The Broncos also rank fifth in the MAC with a .246 batting average.

Cruising on the Base Paths
Western Michigan is a staggering 30-of-32 in stolen bases this season with its 30 stolen bases ranking fourth in the NCAA. The Broncos rank second in the nation with three stolen bases per game.

Charping in the National Rankings
Junior Connor Charping ranks in the top 25 in the NCAA multiple statistical categories through 10 games this season. Charping ranks third in the nation in runs per game (1.60), third in stolen bases (9), fourth in stolen bases per game (0.90) and 11th in base on balls (13).

Hot Start Broncos
In the first and second innings combined this season WMU is outscoring its opponents 38-18. When scoring first the Broncos are 4-1.

Sikorski Leading the Way
Sophomore RHP Easton Sikorski leads the Broncos on the mound this season with a 2-1 record and 2.00 ERA. Sikorski in 18 innings has allowed just four earned runs on 13 hits with a team-high 15 strikeouts. Opponents against Sikorski are hitting just .197.

Production Hudson
Redshirt junior Logan Hudson has been a spark for the Bronco offense, leading the team with a .342 batting average and 11 RBIs. Of Hudson's 13 hits this season, three have gone for extra bases with two doubles and one triple.

Snowbird Classic Success
For the 10th consecutive year the Broncos head to Florida to take part in the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. WMU holds a 23-17 record all-time at the Snowbird Classic and has won eight of its last 11 contests in Port Charlotte.

Scouting the Competition
Villanova (5-4): The Wildcats are riding a two-game win streak heading into Tuesday's match-up with the Broncos. Villanova defeated fellow MAC foe Eastern Michigan 4-1 on Saturday followed by a 16-1 victory over Saint Louis on Sunday.

Northeastern (7-3): Northeastern is off to a hot start to the 2020 campaign, having won seven straight after dropping a three-game series at Alabama. The Huskies have won their last seven games by outscoring its opponents, 54-21.

Army (3-7): Army heads to the Snowbird Classic after splitting a pair of games against Air Force and Campbell last weekend. The Black Knights are hitting .249 this season with 47 runs scored and five home runs.

Iowa (5-4): The Hawkeyes are currently on a two-game win streak and will square off with Grand View on Monday before heading to the Snowbird Classic. Iowa had a successful weekend at the Cambria College Classic in Minneapolis, falling to No. 8 NC State before defeating No. 20 North Carolina and No.14 Duke.

St. Bonaventure (3-2):  The Bonnies began the season with a sweep of Mount St. Mary's before dropping its last two games against North Dakota State. The Bonnies are hitting .287 on the season with a staggering .561 slugging percentage. As a team St. Bonaventure has recorded 13 home runs.
