LONGWOOD, Fla.- The Western Michigan softball team went up against Dartmouth and Kentucky on day two of the Spring Games, dropping game one to the Big Green by a 3-1 decision and falling to the Wildcats 13-0 in five innings.
In game one, Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and added two more in the fifth, off a solo home run and an RBI single from Loghan Thomas. The game stayed scoreless until the top of the seventh inning, when freshman
Courtney Farrish hit a home run, the first of her career as a Bronco, to put a run on the board for the Brown & Gold. WMU went three-up, three-down in the bottom of the seventh to end the game with a 3-1 win for the Big Green.
Western Michigan had seven hits in the morning game, highlighted by Farrish home run. Senior
Mackenzie Swinehart went two-for-three with two singles while
Samantha Coffel went two-for-four with a double in the third inning.
Alyssa Kramer and
Kaylen Glenfield each had one hit.
Reilly Galloway took the loss in the circle, throwing for four innings. Freshman
Autumn Godwin made an appearance for the final two innings of the game.
In the evening game against the Wildcats, Kentucky took a 1-0 lead in the first with the bases loaded, advancing a runner off a wild pitch. A pair of RBI singles and a home run gave Kentucky a 7-0 lead after two innings. The top of the fourth saw the Wildcats add three to the board with four hits in the frame as the Broncos put Galloway back into the circle to finish out the game.

Kentucky added another two runs in the fifth to complete the run-rule decision.

The Broncos picked up singles from sophomore
Maggie Kehoe and senior
Cari Padula and a double from
Sydney Stefanick to round out the offensive effort for WMU.
In the circle versus the Wildcats, Stefanick started and allowed seven runs on six hits, three walks and one wild pitch over 1.2 innings. She also fanned a pair. Godwin came in for two frames and surrendered three runs. Galloway threw the final inning, allowing the final three runs off two hits and two walks.
Western Michigan (3-10) wraps up The Spring Games with a morning matchup against Florida International on Sunday at 9 a.m. Â
