Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Broncos Win Fourth Straight, Defeat Reigning Horizon League Champions

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Western Michigan men's tennis defeated Cleveland State 5-2 in a non-conference match on Wednesday to earn its fourth consecutive victory.

After the Vikings won the first doubles match, senior Jannik Opitz and sophomore Peter Kuszynski beat Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips 6-4. The Broncos clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 position, with senior Kennosuke Nouchi and freshman Arjun Honnappa prevailing over Kade Mindry and Jack Santilli. Nouchi and Honnappa have now won four straight matches as a team during the dual season. Opitz is one win away from reaching 100 career doubles victories.

Honnappa and fellow freshman Rodrigo Crespo gave Western Michigan a 3-0 advantage after winning singles matches over Cleveland State opponents. The Vikings would then cut the Bronco lead to just one, but Kuszynski secured the victory for his team at No. 3 singles following a thrilling three set comeback versus Clark Bilinovich (4-6, 7-6, 6-4). Honnappa, Crespo and Kuszynski are all currently enjoying a four match winning streak in singles competition.

The Broncos will now open Mid-American Conference play against Binghamton on Friday at 2 p.m. in New York.
