KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team heads to its second four-team event of the season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start to the West Virginia Quad Meet. The Broncos will take on host West Virginia, Bowling Green and Towson.

WMU owns a 5-1 record in dual meets and finished fourth of four at the Arizona Quad Meet on January 11. The Broncos are 3-0 inside the friendly confines of University Arena and 2-1 on the road.
Last weekend, Western Michigan suffered its first dual meet setback of the season with a 195.900-194.850 loss at No. 23 Illinois. WMU's overall score of 194.850 marked the fifth time this season it has topped 194.800.
Against the Fighting Illini, the Broncos turned in their best showing of the year on the bars with a 48.975, the program's highest mark in the event since the same score at the 2019 MAC Championship. Senior Amelia Mohler scored a 9.900, tied for the fifth-highest mark in program history, while junior Alexis Olivier set her career high in the event with a 9.875.

Junior Morgan Spence also had her highest all-around score of the season in Champaign with a 38.675 to finish second overall.
Sunday will mark Western Michigan's first trip to Morgantown since 2013, when the team placed third of four teams at a quad meet featuring the Mountaineers, Oklahoma and William & Mary. Last winter, the Broncos faced Towson and won 195.025-193.100 on February 17. Just three weeks ago, on February 2, Western Michigan earned a 194.925-193.975 triumph against Bowling Green.

Entering the seventh week of the 2020 season, the Broncos are fourth in the Mid-American Conference in average score with a 194.525. Freshman Ronni Binstock checks in fifth in the league on the floor, averaging 9.829. Fellow rookie Amanda Gruber moved up to a sixth-place tie in the league on the beam with a 9.782. Olivier has cracked the top 10 on the bars, standing ninth with a 9.750. As a team, Western Michigan paces the league on the bars with a 48.589 and is second on the floor with a 48.864.

The Broncos return to MAC competition on Friday, February 28, with a 7 p.m. match at Central Michigan.
