LOS ANGELES – Opening up the 2020 campaign out west the Western Michigan baseball team fell to the University of Southern California 16-2 on Friday night at Dedeaux Field.
On the night the Broncos registered two runs on three hits with the junior trio of
Logan Hudson,
Blake Dunn and
Justin McIntyre each earning a hit. Both Bronco runs came off the bat of Hudson who went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs against the Trojans.

Blake Dunn at the top of the line-up for the Broncos went 1-for-3 with one run scored while registering one walk and one stolen base.

Connor Charping scored the second run of the night while going 0-for-2 at the plate with two walks.
After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first, Western Michigan held USC scoreless in the second inning before tallying a run in the top of the third. The trio of Dunn, McIntyre and Charping each recorded walks to load the bases for Hudson in the third whose fly ball to center field scored Dunn from third and cut WMU's deficit down to one.
The Broncos got on the board once again in the bottom of the eighth, scoring one run on one hit. With one out Charping registered his second walk of the night and then advanced to second on a wild pitch to put a runner in scoring position for the Brown & Gold.
On a 3-2 count, Hudson delivered with an RBI single back up the middle, scoring Charping from second for WMU's second run of the contest.
Five different Broncos saw the mound on Friday night with sophomore LHP
Dane Armbrustmacher leading the way with three strikeouts. Overall WMU posted seven strikeouts with sophomore RHP
Brady Miller and junior RHP
Brenden Lovell each having two.
USC scored 16 runs on 15 hits in the 2020 season opener highlighted by six runs in the second inning and five in the eighth. WMU left seven runners on the base paths compared to 13 for USC with neither team committing an error on Friday night.
The Broncos are back in action against USC for game two on Saturday, Feb. 15. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
