CLEVELAND – For the second time this season the Mid-American Conference announced on Monday that Western Michigan men's basketball redshirt junior Brandon Johnson has been named MAC West Co-Player of the Week.

Last week Johnson averaged 25 points and 7 rebounds in two games and shot a staggering 79.2 percent from the field en route to Bronco victories over Miami and Ball State. It's the second time this season Johnson has earned MAC West player of the week honors. Johnson shares the weekly honor with Northern Illinois guard Eugene German.

On the road at Miami last Tuesday, Johnson scored 21 points including the go-ahead basket with 36.9 seconds remaining to give WMU a 64-60 win. Johnson was 7-of-10 from the field and free-throw line while recording seven rebounds against the RedHawks.

Johnson followed up his 21-point performance with a career-high 29 on Saturday against Ball State. The Chicago, Ill. native was a staggering 12-of-14 from the field to go along with seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Johnson scored 19 of his 29 points in the second half alone including 15 straight during the final five minutes of play.

Johnson now has six 20-point games during the 2019-20 campaign and ranks second on the team with 15.4 points per game. The redshirt junior forward also leads WMU and ranks ninth in the MAC at eight rebounds per contest.

The Chicago, Ill., native is also inching closer to etching his name into the WMU record book, needing just 122 points to become the 43^rd member of WMU's 1,000-point club.

Johnson and the Broncos are back on the road this week for a pair of game beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Ohio. Western Michigan then travels to Ypsilanti for a showdown with in-state rival Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 15.
