KAMALAZOO, Mich. – Returning home for the first time since the season opener, the Western Michigan gymnastics team hosts Bowling Green for a 1 p.m. Sunday contest. The Broncos are looking to improve to 4-0 in dual meets and 3-0 in Mid-American Conference competition. WMU is aiming for its first 3-0 beginning to MAC dual meets since 2012, when it recorded victories against Kent State, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.
Sunday inside University Arena will be Super Bowl themed. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite NFL team jersey or attire. A few lucky fans will have a chance to win gift cards to local businesses by participating in Super Bowl themed trivia. Music will also be Super Bowl themed throughout the meet.
Most recently, the Broncos came back for a 195.175-194.650 victory January 24 at Eastern Michigan. Western Michigan trailed after the first and second rotations before a strong floor showing in the third rotation gave the Broncos a 146.150-145.700 advantage. Icing the win was another solid outing for the Broncos on the beam, led by freshman
Amanda Gruber's first-place finish with a career-best 9.850.Â

Western Michigan has been led this season by a strong group of freshmen. At Eastern Michigan, rookies
Charlotte Tishkoff (vault),
Josephine Thomas (vault), Gruber (beam) and
Ronni Binstock (floor) all claimed at least a tie for first.
Against the Falcons, the Broncos have won three of the last four dual meets as Bowling Green edged Western Michigan 195.325-194.075 in the 2019 regular season finale. In that contest, WMU started strong on the bars with
Stacie Harrison and
Morgan Spence tying for second with a 9.800. The Broncos also showed well on the vault with
Taylor Buis tying for first with a 9.850.

Entering the fifth week of the 2020 season, the Broncos are fourth in the MAC in average score with a 194.038. Gruber begins the week ranked fifth in the league on the beam with a 9.781 average. Binstock checks in eighth in the MAC on the floor, averaging 9.812. As a team, WMU holds its highest place in the conference on the bars, sitting third (48.413).

The Broncos are home again next Sunday, February 9, hosting Ball State for a 1 p.m. competition that will serve as the year's Pink Meet in support of breast cancer awareness. Pink shirts will be available for sale at the event while supplies last.
