KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team announced its Mid-American Conference slate on Wednesday along with changes to the 2020-21 schedule.
The Broncos will now play just three non-conference games during the 2020-21 season, after originally being scheduled for four. WMU's December 9th road match-up at Detroit Mercy was dropped. WMU begins the 2020-21 season at home on Dec. 5 against UIC. The Broncos final two non-conference opponents are at Valparaiso (Dec. 12) and home against Loyola-Chicago (Dec. 18).
Western Michigan is scheduled to play a 20-game Mid-American Conference schedule beginning on the road on Dec. 9 at Central Michigan. The Brown & Gold will then go out of conference for two games before its MAC home opener on Tuesday, Dec. 22 against Buffalo.
The Broncos begin the new year with a road trip to DeKalb for a meeting with Northern Illinois on Jan. 2 before a two-game home stand against Bowling Green (Jan. 6) and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 9).
After a two-game road swing at Toledo (Jan. 13) and at Kent State (Jan. 16), Western Michigan plays six of its next nine games inside University Arena. The home stretch is highlighted by match-ups with Ohio (Jan. 23), Ball State (Jan.30) and Central Michigan (Feb. 20).
Rounding out the month of February the Broncos travel to in-state foe Eastern Michigan on Feb. 24 prior to its home contest against Northern Illinois on Feb. 27. WMU's home finale is set for Wednesday, March 3 against Toledo.
Western Michigan concludes the 2020-21 campaign on Saturday, March 6 at Ball State. New to the 2020-21 season is the elimination of divisions with each MAC team playing a 20-game conference schedule. The MAC also eliminated the opening round campus-site games for the men's and women's basketball tournament. The top eight-teams will advance to the conference tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
