KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan football redshirt sophomore quarterback
Kaleb Eleby earned national recognition from the Davey O'Brien Award Monday, as a member of it's Great 8 List for Week 12.
In the Broncos 52-44 win over Central Michigan, Eleby threw for a career-high 382 yards and set a new career-mark of five touchdown passes. Eleby also rushed for a touchdown, his third of the season. Eleby led the Broncos to 628 yards of total offense and 52 points, the second-most scored by the Broncos in a game against Central Michigan.
Eleby is completing nearly 68 percent of his passes this season to go along with 928 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Maryland Heights, Mo., native also has three rushing touchdowns on just 13 attempts. The redshirt sophomore quarterback leads the Mid-American Conference in multiple statistical categories including passing yards, touchdowns, passing yards per game (309.3) and efficiency (240.4). Eleby ranks second in the MAC in total offense, averaging 312.7 per game.
Nationally Eleby leads the country in passing efficiency, yards per completion (21.09) and yards per pass attempt (14.28). He also ranks 10
th in yards per game, 17
th in total offense and 18
th in completion percentage.
By earning a spot on the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 list, Eleby is automatically added to the midseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
Western Michigan (3-0) returns to the field on Saturday, Nov. 28 for a match-up with Northern Illinois inside Waldo Stadium. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN Plus.
