Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Hockey Downs St. Cloud State, 6-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team extended its winning streak to three games after a 6-2 thrashing of St. Cloud State at Lawson Ice Arena on Friday night.

Six different Broncos (10-9-4, 6-5-2-2 NCHC) scored in the win, while Cole Gallant and Josh Passolt each and two assists. The goals came from Paul Washe, Jared Kucharek, Hugh McGing, Wade Allison, Ronnie Attard and Brett Van Os. Freshman goalie Brandon Bussi made 19 saves as WMU outshot SCSU 40-21 on the night.

Western Michigan got out to a fast start with Washe deflecting in a shot by Michael Joyaux at 7:59 in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was Washe's team-leading ninth of the season, while Joyaux picked up his 12th assist and Passolt his eighth.

WMU pushed the lead to 2-0 at 14:11 when Van Os set up Kucharek for the highlight-real goal in front of the net. The sophomore defenseman's goal was the first of his career. Van Os picked up his fifth assist of the season, while Lawton Courtnall also tallied a helper.

McGing scored just 1:05 later to go up 3-0. Gallant threw a pass toward the net and McGing tipped it into the net for his fifth goal of the season. The goal was the 100th point of the senior forward's career, becoming the 60th player in program history to reach the milestone. Gallant recorded his 10th assist of the season and extending his assist streak to four games. Kale Bennett also picked up an assist on the goal, his fifth of the season.

Jack Ahcan cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal at 19:48 in the first period but was ejected from the game just eight seconds after for a hit to the head on Gallant.

WMU took advantage of the major power play in the second period, with Allison tallying on the power play at 3:20 to push the lead to 4-1. McGing set up the goal, which gave Allison six points in his past three games and a goal in each of them, while Cam lee tallied his fifth helper of the season.

Zach Okabe once again brought the Huskies within two after a shot by Luke Jaycox deflected off of him and into the net at 10:32 in the third period.

St. Cloud State pulled starting goalie David Hrenak from the net to get the extra attacker in the final three minutes, but Attard fired a shot from deep in his own end for the empty-net goal to push the lead to 5-2. The goal was Attard's fifth of the season.

Van Os added his goal with two seconds left to go on a shot from the slot for his third tally of the season. Passolt picked up his second assist of the night on the goal along with Gallant.
