Broncos to Face DePaul in Non-Conference Road Match

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team will travel to Chicago for a non-conference match-up with DePaul tomorrow evening, with an 8 p.m. ET scheduled start time. The Broncos have opened the 2020 dual season with a 1-1 record, following a 4-3 victory over Oakland on Saturday and a close 3-4 loss to Cleveland State on Monday. 

SCOUTING DEPAUL
The Blue Demons are the defending Big East Tournament Champions, defeating Xavier 4-3 in the final match. They finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 11-12 and a 6-2 mark in conference play. 

DePaul returns three All-Big East selections in senior Aspasia Avgeri, and junior's Alina Kuzmenkova and Marija Jovicic. Avgeri led her team with a 7-1 singles record in conference action.

Sophomore Hristina Djokic was named the first Big East Tennis Female Athlete of the Week for the 2020 season on Tuesday. 

BRONCOS SWEEP MAC WEEKLY HONORS
Freshman Lindsey Zieglar was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week, and she also earned Doubles Team of the Week accolades with senior Gabriela Slavova, as announced on Wednesday. 

Lindsey won her first collegiate dual singles match on Saturday, defeating Victoria Kurz from Oakland in a third set tie-break (6-7, 6-1, 7-6). Her win secured the fourth and decisive point for her team, as the Broncos opened their season with a 4-3 victory over the Golden Grizzlies in Kalamazoo. 

Zieglar teamed up with Slavova against Oakland, prevailing over Nirva Patel and Victoria Kurz by a 6-4 score at #3 doubles. Their win helped the Broncos earn the doubles point over the Golden Grizzlies.

UP NEXT
The Broncos will head to the Hoosier State for a pair of non-conference contests against Butler on Saturday, February 1 and Indiana on Sunday, February 2.
