KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The Western Michigan women's basketball team and head coach Shane Clipfell have announced the hiring of Lykendra Johnson as the new Director of Basketball Operations on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Johnson comes to Kalamazoo from overseas, where she was a starting forward and center with the Greek Women's Basketball League for seven seasons. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2011 and was a five-year member of their women's basketball team.

"We are very happy to announce that our next DOBO will be Lykendra Johnson, who will be joining us after a 7-year stint as a professional player in Europe," Clipfell said. "I have known her for a long while, dating back to her playing days at MSU, where she was an absolute blue-collar player. We know that will translate to her being a blue-collar addition to our staff and someone our players will learn that they can immediately lean on for their needs."

Johnson joins the coaching staff and team for the Broncos' upcoming 2019-20 season. WMU went 10-20 and 4-13 in the conference last season, placing them fifth in the MAC West division. The Broncos totaled an average of 61.8 points per game this season, with 32.4 average rebounds and 12.0 assists. They finished tenth in the MAC in field goal and three-point percentage with 1853 total points scored- 669 field goals and 222 threes.

Her responsibilities as director of basketball operations will include assisting in the day-to-day operations of the basketball program, focusing on administrative duties, travel and logistics, film breakdown, community service coordination and summer camps.
