CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up a weather-shortened final day of the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic on Saturday.
The Broncos picked up a win in the 4x100-meter run and also had a strong performance in the 1,500-meter run.
Sophomore Courtney Allen finished as the runner up in the 1,500 after running a time of 5:01.26, edging out Allison Hansen from UIC by .19 seconds. Junior Haley Ritsema also ran well, finishing in fourth place with a time of 5:05.35.
Erica Sheahan, Madison Meredith, Alex Bryant and Diamond Mitchell combined to run a time of 50.58 seconds. Mitchell and Sheahan both stood out on Friday in the long jump, with Sheahan winning the event and Mitchell finishing in second place.
Taylor Rucker and Diana Holsey took third and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Rucker finished with a time of 15.45 seconds, followed by Holsey at 15.60.
After a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday, senior Allison Hufnagel tied for third place in the high jump, reaching 5' 3" (1.60m).
Western Michigan returns home to host the Jack Shaw Classic on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. The Broncos will welcome men's and women's teams from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Purdue Fort Wayne and Milwaukee.
