Hockey's Season Ends in NCHC Quarterfinals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey season came to an end on Monday after suffering a 3-2 loss to Colorado College at Lawson Ice Arena.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Westin Michaud at 16:47 in the first period. Michaud beat a Bronco defenseman on the goal line and skated in on WMU goalie Trevor Gorsuch for his 12th goal of the season.

WMU answered with 1:11 remaining in the second period. Austin Rueschhoff banged in a rebound on an initial shot by Josh Passolt for his 12th goal of the season. Cam Orchard also picked up an assist, his second of the series.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead when a loose puck bounced to Alex Beradinelli in the slot and he beat Gorsuch for his ninth goal of the season.

Just two minute later the lead was extended to 3-1 when Trevor Gooch redirected a shot by Bryan Yoon into the net.

WMU pulled Gorsuch late in the third period and Rueschhoff added his second of the night with 2:24 left to go, cutting the lead to 3-2. Orchard fed Rueschhoff in front of the net and he punched it in for his 13th goal of the season.
Passolt also tallied an assist, his second of the night.

Gorsuch stayed on the bench and the Broncos kept up the pressure but fell short.

Gorsuch made 22 saves on the night while Leclerc made a game-high 32.
