Wool Ties Career High as WMU Downs EMU, 71-68

KALAMAZOO, Mich.Leighah-Amori Wool tied her career-high with 21 points as the Western Michigan women's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 71-68 win over Eastern Michigan at University Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos (9-16, 3-11 MAC) trailed the Eagles 52-50 heading into the fourth quarter and hit six three-pointers in the final 10 minutes to take the lead and the win.

Back-to-back triples my Maddie Watters and Kamrin Reed gave Western Michigan a 56-54 lead. EMU's Courtnie Lewis hit a pair of free throws to tie it up at 56-56 before Watters hit her second three of the quarter to give the Broncos back the lead. Meredith Miller hit from beyond the arc to push the lead to 62-56. After a layup by Corrione Cardwell Wool hit a triple to push the lead to 65-68. The Eagles responded with the next four points but Miller struck again from deep to give WMU a four-point lead, 68-64. Miller and Deja Wimby each hit free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Jasmyn Walker had 10 points and eight rebounds, while Wimby finished with eight points, eight rebound and seven assists. Miller also reached double-digits with 10 points, while Wool had five rebounds to go with her career-high point total. Watters finished with six points, all in the fourth quarter. The Broncos shot 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the field and 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from beyond the arc.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth 10 minutes with Eastern Michigan taking a 21-20 lead into the second. EMU was able to extend its lead to 41-36 at the half before the Broncos chipped away to get within two heading into the fourth quarter.

Western Michigan heads out on the road to take on Toledo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning to University Arena to host Ball State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
