ATHENS, Ohio - The Western Michigan women's basketball team faced College Insider's Mid-Major No. 6-ranked team in Ohio University on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 70-56 setback in the Mid-American Conference road test.Â
Ohio forced 21 Bronco turnovers and used a collective scoring effort to down the Broncos. Three Bobcats tallied 15 points while the team shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field. WMU made 22-of-58 field goal attempts and was out-rebounded by the home team, 40-32.Â
Leighah-Amori Wool led the Brown & Gold with a career-high 21-point performance and
Deja Wimby reached 1,000 career points along with a team-high 11 rebounds.
Meredith Miller notched a career-high five assists, sharing the team-lead with Wimby.Â
Wool converted a career-high eight field goals and a career-high five three-point field goals to lead WMU. Wimby's first basket of the game allowed her to join the Western Michigan 1,000-point club while becoming the seventh player in program history to have surpassed 1,000 points, 400 assists, and 200 steals in a career.Â
WMU got off to a strong start, claiming a 14-11 advantage in the first 10 minutes, led by an eight-point effort from Wool. The Broncos grabbed a three-point lead several times in the first quarter, with its last lead of the game coming with a
Jasmyn Walker bucket at the end of the first quarter.Â
The home team bounced back in the second quarter, forcing 10 Bronco turnovers while outscoring WMU 25-10 to claim a 36-24 halftime lead.Â
Once again WMU opened a half strongly, outscoring the Bobcats 20-15 in the third quarter. The Broncos came within five of Ohio at 44-49 with a Kamrin Reed layup with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter and OU led 51-44 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Ohio strung together a 10-0 run in the front end of the final stanza and didn't look back, maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of time.Â
