COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan hockey's Trevor Gorsuch and Cam Lee have earned Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference weekly honors after their performances in WMU's sweep of No. 4/3 Denver over the weekend.
Gorsuch earned his second Bauer NCHC Goalie of the Week award after posting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. In Friday's 2-1 win over the Pioneers he made 21 saves, including 14 in the third period, to earn his 12th win of the season. On Saturday he made 36 saves, including 19 in the third period, to again hold the Pioneers to just one goal. The weekend also moved Gorsuch up to second in the NCHC in both save percentage (.935) and goals against average (1.96) in conference games.
Lee earned Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week for the second time this season after tallying four points on a goal and three assists and finishing +3. On Friday he tallied two assists, helping set up the game-winning goal and an empty-net goal. He also played a significant part in holding the Pioneers scoreless on six power plays, including a 5-minute major in the third period. On Saturday he had the primary assist on WMU's game-winning goal in the first period, giving the Broncos a 2-1 lead. He then scored his sixth goal of the season, giving WMU a 4-0 lead in the second period. Lee also helped the penalty kill finish 7-for-8 on the night.
Western Michigan heads back on the road in National Collegiate Hockey Conference play, traveling to Omaha on Friday and Saturday. Both games are slated for 8:07 p.m. and can be seen live on NCHC.tv and heard live on the Bronco Radio Network. WMU returns home to host North Dakota on Feb. 15-16. Friday's game will start at 6:30 p.m. due to national coverage by CBS Sports Network.
